Can’t believe today was the last day of preschool! I used to not think much of preschool graduations– until I found myself sitting teary-eyed in the front row seating at yours. Excited that the world lies ahead of you, yet a part of me is worried, knowing it can be a rough place out there. My little ‘baby’ girl is off to kindergarten. However, the memories of you as a new born are still so vivid in my mind.

As your mom, I’m thrilled for the adventure that you are about to begin, but I am also a bit nervous.

As your mom, I’m curious to see the person that you’ll become, and I’ll miss the person you are now.

As your mom, I know this is just the beginning– of you finding yourself, and me gently stepping back.

This summer, you got on a bike and learnt to ride on your own. You had your falls and your share of tears when friends who could ride faster left you behind. This is just the beginning of a life where there will be wins and losses. My wish for you is that you always grow from both. I know that some of the worries and challenges that I face will one day be yours too. When those days come, I only hope to prepare you to stay strong . May the hope and sparkle in your eyes as a preschool graduate stay bright. May the songs about making the world a better place keep their hope alive.

You brought us all our firsts as parents and the pure joys of parenthood– your first steps, your first smile, your chubby cheeks and even your smelly poops. You were the light that kept us going, especially when your brother arrived and we faced the early days of his deaf diagnosis. We went through it all with you by our side– through twos, threes, fours– and now here we are. Our little ‘baby’ girl is five and off to Kindergarten.

With your backpack on and anticipation in your heart, you turn away and walk into this new world. My wish for you is simple: keep shining. Love your Elsa, embrace your blues without fear, and own your falls without worry. Let your magic live on.
